Cabrinha AV8 Performs at the 2019 Fort to Battery!

Author: Brendan Healy

This Saturday marked the sixth annual running of the Charleston Fort to Battery Race hosted by our friends at Force Kite and Wake in Charleston, SC.  Conditions were prime for the annual distance race with breeze out of the South that eventually built to 18+ knots by the 3:30PM scheduled start time!  The brand new Cabrinha AV8 kite was on the starting line and excelled in the 3.8 mile sprint as the first inflatable kite to cross the finish line in the fleet of 90+ kiters and the 4th overall finisher!

This event is a one of a kind all out downwind sprint, one of few like it in the sailing world, attracting kiters from all over the US of A for what’s normally about a 6 minute race!  Adventure Sports and Cabrinha kites were on hand to support our friends and hosts, Force Kite and Wake and the James Island Yacht Club.  This year’s event was one of the faster races on record with the overall winner finishing in about 6 minutes and 30 seconds.

This event was the first showing for the all new Cabriha AV8 kit and it relished the prime Charleston Harbor conditions.  With power unlike any kite in the Cabrinha line, the kite was easily out in front and leading the pack of LEI kites from the start and chipping away at the foil kite division!

If you haven’t gotten a chance to demo the new AV8, now’s the time!  Contact any of our friendly Adventure Sports stores or reps to schedule a demo and get out on the water with this bad boy!  Not only is it a race machine, but it’s 5 strut construction and flat arc design make it an absolute boosting monster!  Next event on the schedule is the Buzzards Bay Regatta in Massachusetts in August where the AV8 will have it’s own one design racing division with rental kits available!  See you on the starting line!
