On Sunday afternoon, the Adventure Sports and Cabrinha came together for an epic downwind kite race across some of Miami’s most iconic waters. Starting at Virginia Key, riders charged past Crandon Park, wrapped around Cape Florida, and flew over the flats of Stiltsville all the way to Soldier Key and then finally across the bay to Matheson Hammock Park at Cabrinha Cove

This downwind kite race was limited to tube kites, twin tips, and surf boards. Winds ranged from 16-21 knots and the total distance was just North of 20 miles. This was the first race here doing this route, and we are so stoked on many to come as this will grow into the premier downwind kite race in the United States.

“It’s truly incredible how you can just move from point to point on a kiteboard. I love downwinders because you feel like you’re your own boat it’s an amazing feeling.

We rode past Crandon, by Bill Baggs, over Stiltsville it’s so cool to see all these landmarks from the water. As a Miami local, you think you need a boat to explore these places, but you can just kite with your gear and that’s amazing.” - Sofia Aguirre

This race was all about real world performance limited to tube kites, twin tips, and surfboards, & pushing riders in 16–22 knots of wind over a 20+ mile course.

The whole journey took about two and a half to three hours some faster, some slower. But it was incredible to share this with such an awesome community. It wasn’t easy but it was absolutely achievable. And it’s amazing that we all came together to make it happen.
