Since its inception, this line has been a magic blend of everything an advanced rider wants from their funboard. While the originals focussed on ease, the second generation turned out more agile and lively. The shapes of this 3rd generation feature significantly improved control at speed and through chop, resulting in a sporty and energetic character which is incredibly easy to handle.
Consequently, these boards ride smooth and fast. They gybe willingly and carve into and through turns with ease. They surprise being JP’s most playful and manoeuvre oriented freeride boards. The magic of these boards pushes the performance and fun factor to the next level.

The Magic Ride is the undisputed ‘Master of the Turn’ in the freeride class: In gybes it feels effortless and refined even in challenging sea states. Still featuring its respected autopilot qualities, the MR requires little input from the rider and its forgivingness will pamper the intermediate rider and increase their success rate in gybes. It’s never been easier to enter the turn even at lower speeds and exit still on the plane – and planing through gybes is everybody’s desire!

At the same time its rail bite and its reliability when carving steady arcs will encourage the more advanced rider to push harder and corner with full dedication: Tighter and tighter turns, classic freestyle like duck gybes and carving 360s will be the name of the game. The Magic Ride can be quoted a bigger Freestyle Wave and is the most playful and manoeuvrable of JP’s freeride boards.

The true freerider: What is astonishing about this board line is its ease and smoothness. You’ll step on it and everything will happen naturally and predictably. JP‘s four Freestyle boards go unchanged into the next season. Nevertheless, they still are state of the art because of their super wide range of use. These boards perform at fun events on freshwater as well as in PWA and EFPT hard core freestyle events on the sea. These production boards always represent a great and complete package overall. They are stable, easy to sail and thus big fun for recreational sailors. Maintaining speed easily, they provide maximum pop – no matter if sailing regular or switch stance.

More than just conventional freestyle boards, all sizes come with JP’s reinforced Foil-Powerbox and their compact and wide shapes make them ideal toys for foil riding! This widens the range of use of your “small” gear: Just mount a foil and fly – while other freestylers with their normal fins are stuck on the beach waiting for the wind to pick up. JP’s short Freestyle boards provide enough ease and stability to pick up this new segment of our sport quite easily. Advanced foil freestylers can push their limits and pull-off their first crazy moves at the EFPT “foilstyle” events.
Although not specially designed and tuned for it, the shape dimensions also allow for the use of a wing.

Shape details:

The scoop rocker line in the mid-section of the board is flat for effortless and early planing.

The bottom shape has a pronounced V from the mast base forward which –in combination with the soft tuck line in this area of the board– makes it very forgiving. The ride is smooth and relaxed, even when sailing switch in chop and you don’t lose speed when going for double moves. These features also prevent the rail from catching during sliding moves.

The tail features sufficient width and area for efficient pop in light winds. At the same time, the tail is not too big for explosive pop when the wind picks up.

The noticeable curve in the outline and centred volume distribution brings the swing weight close to the mast base. Rotations happen a lot quicker and moves become more radical.

Towards the tail we run a defined tuck line in combination with a rather flat V bottom shape. These features create instant power, fantastic grip and a loose ride.

The fin is big enough to support all powerful moves and faster action.

The JP Freestyle boards accelerate superbly for powerful jumps. Their short, compact shapes enhance the handling in all moves and speed up all rotations. The lively and direct feel builds confidence so that amateurs and pros alike will pull-off more moves in greater style. And the Foil-Powerbox widens the range of use.

Extremely quick to get planing and reaching top speed, the Magic Wave pops over white water effortlessly and jumps extremely high. It offers both front and back foot wave riding possibilities, gaining speed and control from the advanced rocker shape, beautiful rails and wide, thin, ultra-high performance swallow tail.
Confidence, speed, comfort and grip on the wave all combine into a board that feels carvy and loose on the wave face, while still offering the essential speed needed for more onshore conditions.
Finally an all-round board which excels in mediocre conditions but does not compromise on wave performance. JP’s most exciting introduction to the wave board market for many years.

The concept of a wider swallow tail board with an equally wide nose gave us a stable base for the new board. We worked tirelessly developing a new rocker for this board that is extremely fast without being too stiff on the wave. The very fast, early planing Wave Slate and the multiple award winning Freestyle Wave were good benchmarks. The new Magic Wave equals or betters the Wave Slate in early planing, low end, top speed, versatility and looseness on the wave. And its planing performance comes close that of the Freestyle Wave.

Shaper Werner Gnigler followed a new path by disconnecting the centre scoop rocker line from the rail line. So, the traditionally known rocker along the centre does not exist anymore in the tail area. Werner combined V and concaves along the bottom which created a curvy rail line and resulted in the magic combination of fast, early planing boards with outstanding manoeuvrability.

The more parallel rail outline that we gain from the wider nose and tail really helps with early planing and keeping speed through white water. It also is easier to keep as much speed as possible through the bottom turn in onshore conditions and side-shore alike. You can use a smaller sail and feel less overpowered with this new design which makes wave riding and jumping feel much more comfortable and controllable.

Jumping is easy on this board because the wide nose and tail give more lift when hitting the wave, so you automatically jump a little bit higher. When you come down to land forward and backwards rotating moves, you have more board under your feet and at the nose which makes for a more forgiving landing.

The small 68 follows the same shape and design principles as its bigger brothers but, due to its size, suits lighter riders or provides more control for heavier sailors when the conditions get really gnarly.

The boards come with a set of thruster fins featuring a traditional outline and sufficient area, especially in the tip. Thus, planing and maintaining speed is easier. They are forgiving in manoeuvres and smoothen the ride. The thruster fin setup grants the widest possible range of wave use and the 5-fin box setup enables tuning to personal preferences, giving the boards greater range of use from onshore to down-the-line conditions. Plugs are provided to cover the boxes not used.

JP’s greatest all-round wave design still performs at its best in onshore jumping and wave riding. The Magic Wave jumps higher and rides small to medium sized waves better than the Ultimate Wave but it doesn’t stop there. It holds its own in far bigger waves than you would expect, meaning that you can really choose 1 board for 90% of conditions and will almost never be under-gunned in big surf or lacking performance in small surf. Offering huge performance potential for an experienced rider, they are super-efficient on all tracks and especially off the wind. Armed with plenty of traction they inspire confidence to easily control high-speed flight. It is easy to exploit the full performance potential as the stance is relaxed and you are totally connected to the hull when transferring maximum sail power for more and more acceleration.

The shapes are based on the slalom board concept but tuned to suit the demand and physical strength of performance-oriented recreational windsurfers. As such, these Super Sports feature several elements of our Slalom line:

• Being short they feel very compact
• The parallel outline maximises the planing surface at the mast base lifting the boards onto the plane instantly.
• The centred swing weight gives great top end control.
• The deck concave around the mast base reduces the volume and lowers the pivot point of the rig for additional control.
• The bottom curve and V-flow of the Slalom boards were adjusted to improve comfort and gybing ability. This efficiently contributes to the early release, loose ride and high water position.
• The tail configuration creates on the one hand a wider outline at the tail while at the same time reducing the overall volume.
• The thinned-out rails throughout the whole board length combine comfort and efficiency. They provide tight turns and easier gybing. Exiting the turn with speed will be as easy as going fast in a straight line.
• The tail cut-outs are responsible for great release and easy trimming of the board for a fast and comfortable ride.
• The tail outline and deck shape offers great leverage for better acceleration and top end performance.

Overall, all these shape features make this JP’s best planing and performing Super Sport line ever. Most impressive – making them a standout in the free-race class – are the smoothness of ride, comfort and ease. Consequently, the boards can be set to top speed mode easily and maintain this high level with little effort. As a cherry on the cake, the thin rails and low tail volume make initiating gybes at this high speed very smooth.

Wide enough and with sufficient volume to provide good stability for uphauling and learning for all youngsters, according to the feedback from our customers, this model also suits the demands of lighter young guns. They will advance quickly and learn to sail back and forth happily in no time.
Already in light winds the board responds quickly to rig steering and is very easy to tack and gybe.
Once the young riders are more experienced, the board will progress along with them. The combination of a relatively small rig paired with the rider’s light weight will accelerate this board easily on to the plane. And once planing, foot steering requires little effort and initiating turns is very easy.

The Young Gun Magic Ride provides features which kids really need. The shape will get Young Guns planing quickly, initiating turns easily and – most important – having a ball on the water from the very first run!

The designs feature a parallel outline and a bottom shape concept which starts with a flat Vee to a Vee with concaves towards the nose.

The 170 unites the advantages of the previous 160 and 180 and has a very wide range of use. It works as a beginner board for most riders from kids, to lightweights to sporty medium weights. It is still short enough to turn easily – an important feature the lighter the rider and the lighter the wind.

The 200 is the perfect beginner board as it is very wide and stable. It is a bit longer which provides better tracking – an advantage for heavier beginners.

The 240 is clearly longer than its brothers providing superior directional stability. Due to the enormous width over the whole length and its fuller rails, the high volume makes it super stable – even for the heaviest newcomer.
